A friend has a 9600 that he accidentally put kerosene in instead of diesel. The tractor will run wide open when you start it. What could have missed up with the pump. It ran find before this mistake.

you didn't say how much or how long. but even a 50/50mix shouldn't have hurt it.. some run that in the winter just to keep the fuel liquid.

did he accidentally run it on k1 for 30 years?

or added 5-10g to it and it coincidentally died after that.?

wide open sound slike a sticky rack...

i think i'd start off the same way i do any diesel i get, and run a tripple dose of diesel kleen thru it and maybee some atf-f fluid.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I also have one of these. It is a cav pump which I believe is the same as a simms pump. When I first start it up it runs to wide open then idles down to about 700rpm then revs back up. It does level out after about 30 seconds. The cam box fills with fuel. Does it need new seals in the pump? How hard is it to put new seals in the pump?

I'm not sure the mix, but he said the tractor ran so hot you can see where the exhaust melted the air breather bowl. I think the pump has something broke inside. It looks like the way a bosh inline pump is made. But the tractor was fine until he put the kerosene in it.

It must have run wide open for a few hours to melt the precleaner bowl. it is normal for it to hunt up and down for fifteen seconds or so upon cold start up. perhaps the kerosene loosened some crud and it has caused the rack to hang up. Try taking the front cover off the pump and see if the rack will slide forward and back as you operate the throttle.

Yes check the rack. My 9600 sat for 3 weeks without running after working it hard on 200 acres tillage work. It sat for 3 weeks and I started it and the rack was stuck wide open. I took the cover off and cleaned it with carb cleaner. I got the rack to move back and forth and now it starts right up.
