2 questions for the Ford Guru's

Hi Ford forums folks:
I posted this yesterday in the 'tractor talk' forum and got several answers to my question: trying to ID the manuf. of the NON-Oliver seat on my Oliver 550.
Several thought it to be Ford.

Thought this forum might be a good place to verify this and get some recommendations on the best source(s) for a replacement padded cover AND parts for the suspension mechanism so that it will actually have some shock absorbing qualities. Currently the suspension mechanism is not functional and it is like riding on concrete.

And are parts readily available to rebuild this seat mechanism so that it will provide an easier ride?
If so, any recommendations on the best place to buy, as well as a padded replacement seat cover?

Any assistance would be appreciated!

That does look like Ford's 'Deluxe' seat. The hint
of blue paint in the last picture would tend to
support that.
This is Ultradog's preferred seat for his
tractors. He should be able to help with where to
get parts. In the mean time, maybe try checking
New Holland's parts site. I think Ultra said he
got bushings at a local hardware store.

D Page,
I have the same seat on my Ford 4000. I had a 7000 with the same seat. I purchased the seat on the 4000 at my Ford dealer in the 90's to replace it's original Rest-O-Ride seat.
Ford offered that seat as a "Deluxe Seat" option on their 1965 to 1974 series of tractors.
I believe it was made by Grammer?
I had the rubber tension piece go out of mine and was able to fix it, but it was expensive. Almost the cost of a new seat. The seat pan was also available from CNH.
I looked up the rubber spring at Messick's Web site. (It's now a steel spring)

19.1 SPRING replaces #D6NNB453B 83909754 $117.30

I found that seat to be very comfortable and much sturdier than the aftermarket seats of today. I believe Ultradog has said that seat is his favorite.

I have the same seat on my F850. It feels like its tilted forward and I'm going to slide out of it, not a good ride. I've tried to adjust it but still it's tilted forward. Any thoughts?
Not trying to "high jack" this thread just figured I'd ask while on the topic.

interesting your comment on the 'forward tilt' of the seat, because this seat has the same feel.
Granted it is a Ford seat on a Oliver tractor AND there is no functional suspension in the current condition, that might change with the correct springs, bushings are whatever is needed to restore some of the 'spring in the seat'

thanks for the comment, hope some of the members can help with correcting.

When everything is there and working properly,
there are two positions on that seat...and it
sounds like one or both of you have it in the
inclined position. As far as I know, that is only
meant for helping drain rainwater off the seat.
I've sat down on them like that...NOT comfortable.

Had that seat style on a 3000 and on a 4000. The second picture shows the seat in the "normal" position. The third and fourth pictures show it in the "inclined/pushed back" position.
The inclined/pushed back position also gives the operator leg clearance if one prefers to stand!

I think it was made by Bostrum. The pan and cushion assembly is available from a variety of sources including A&I and (I believe) K&M. I have a suspension that is in excellent condition that I put a new pan/cushion on. It is extremely uncomfortable due to the pitch of the pan, as others state. And this would be in the operating position, not tipped up for drainage or driving while standing. I think the mounting holes are positioned incorrectly on the repop seats.

That style has a rubber torsion spring in it.
I replaced one once but it did not fit quite right. I think the part was about $80 then.
That was a few years ago and IIRC I had to grind on it somewhere to make it work.
I sold that seat on a tractor.
The early style had a steel torsion spring that rarely failed.
You can see the difference in the photo - the crimped pipe sticking out of the side.
Yes those are my favorite style seats.
I 'restored' the one below. I bought the whole seat which had a new bucket on it from a guy on craigslist who had boogered up the suspension. I combined 2 seats into one then bought new bushings for it at the hardware store.
Bushings were not too expensive - maybe $20 for the 4 of them?
I think though, if you have to replace the rubber spring and the bucket you would be into it for more than it's worth (even to me and I like them).
In that case I would just go buy one off of this site or ebay or even TSC has seats that would match your color.
I have about $75 in the one below so it was worth it to me.
If you do decide to replace that one, if the vinyl covering is not torn or cracked I would be interested in buying the bucket from you.

It is undoubtedly a seat of Ford origin as fitted to the thousand series and later tractors. I like that seat with the OEM pan on it like you have. I hated it with the replacement pans.
I don't know who made it but I suspect it's probably a Grammer... although it could very well be a Bostrom. Ford was well known to use both suppliers.
At this stage of the game I usually just throw a Turkish seat on them... with the wrap around back rest and a decent suspension. They're a cheap seat. The pans will rot after 8-10 years or so... but for most of that time they're reasonably comfortable. I've also got a 'Big Boy' seat on my 5000. Little more money. Kind of a better seat... arm rests that aren't that great, etc. I mainly go that route because I like the fore/aft adjustment and the improved suspension vs the original seat. Cost would also be a factor... Anything the the Bostrom or Grammer name on it is bloody expensive.
