871 SOS Lurching power loss and gain...

While using the 1959 871 SOS yesterday, the tractor was popping a little bit, and it was losing power and then gaining power - best described as a lurching while in gear (reverse or forward.) Not sure if it is an electrical/spark issue or carb issue. gas is new and 3/4 tank full. Older Pertronix conversion (about 8 yeas ago).

Any help or ideas?
Thanks. 9n"er

Forgot to add: new battery too.

it seemed to have evened out a little as I pulled the choke out a little bit while it was in drive. Didn"t seem to help much as I fiddled with the choke while driving it. But, I am suspecting that there may be a carb adjustment - having to do with air, or the choke. Will give it a more serious look tonight when I get home from work. Seems like I should get the tractor up to operating temperature before fiddling with it. Agree? thanks!
