I volunteer at a civil war farm near
Gettysburg, PA. I do maintenance. Recently they
purchased a Ford 600 series 5 speed to do bush
hog work. I cannot determine what size engine
is in this tractor. It may be an industrial
since there is a plate bolted over the fuel
pump opening. I do not think it is a 134 cu
inch because it has a TSX62 carb which has a
2&11/16 inch bolt spacing. I know it is not the
correct carb but it works. The manifolds all
look original to the engine. Would a 172 cu
inch engine bolt up? Can it be identified if I
get pictures?

If there is a plate bolted over the fuel pump location then you are probably right. Go to the below site and scroll down to the engine casting codes. The will tell you the displacement and years used. If I recall correctly, the industrials had a plate on the side of the block. I may be mistaken. Hope this helps.

All the 134, 144, 172, 192, gas, lp, and diesel red tigers have the same bolt pattern, all the gasser manifolds swap. Post back what you find in that 650

Darn phone sent before I was done, could be 660 if it is a live clutch, check bellhousing aft of starter for I'd #

industrial tag could be on the top valve cover probably on the side it will be hard to see behind the muffler. Post the numbers on the bottom section of the block, right hand side of tractor.

The number behind the starter is 650 <>14723<> which agrees with being a 600 with a five speed transmission.

The number on the right hand bottom of the block is D6JL8015B. Does that mean anything? There is a foil label on the dome cover but the information is not readable.

I'll check again but I thought it was an 8. Is there some place online that give information about the engine block from that number? Thanks

The engine casting numbers for the red tiger engines, except for the very early ones, always ended in 6015x where the x at the end was one or 2 capital letters, so that is why Kirk asked if that 8 was really a 6. So if it is D6JL6015B, the D6 at the beginning means that the casting was designed in 1976. The JL means that it was designed to be used by the Industrial division and that it was designed by the industrial division. Most tractor division designed parts had NN in the third and fourth positions. 6015 is the designation for an engine block, and the last B is an incremental design spec that only means something to you if you have the Ford technical specifications. The first 4 characters combined with the letters at the end will tell you exactly what that engine is if you know where to look. Unfortunately, not all information about all engines is conveniently located in one spot.

A google search on D6JL6015B doesn't return much, but being an industrial engine with the block casting designed in 1976, it wasn't the original engine block for any tractor. My guess would be either a 172 or a 192.
