Ford 4830 quit...

I was almost finished in the hayfield, lacked about 10 small square bales being finished, and the tractor just up and quit. Earlier in the day it started revving up and down a little, like it had some air in system somewhere(maybe I didn't get it completely bled out the last time I changed the fuel filter, but the tractor ran fine the first few hours). It seemed to get worse as the day went on, at one point I happened to look down and notice the cav primer button was sucked in. I actually stopped for a bit, changed over to the baler, and the tractor went back to normal, other than I did notice what I though was a small damp spot around the bottom of the primer button. After baling for awhile, it started revving a little, not bad, just ever now and then. Then it died. I pulled the plug on the pump and cranked it with the engine stop out, and I was getting all kinds of bubbles. It would clear up, then come right back. It's either got an awful lot of air in it or its sucking air somewhere...any suggestions??

Classic starving for fuel. Check for strong flow to the filters for a good twenty seconds. If you have that check for an extra gasket on the filter.

I would start by checking the flow from the tank and make sure that's a strong steady stream at the filter head. Then make sure the filter is clean or just change it... and make sure you change all of the gaskets and install them in the correct positions. If the problem continues I would suspect it's pulling some air on the primer if it's wet. I'm not familiar with the primer setup on that engine. You must have a later model with electric fuel shutoff? Regardless, if fuel can seem out, a LOT more air can get in and the problem you have with the engine galloping is most likely air in the system.... so check the supply and filter as they sometimes pull air on the filter if you don't seat the gaskets correctly, then move on the primer.
