would a rear end from a 3400 be ok to put on a 3500 backhoe/front end loader?
will it fit?
is it as heavy duty?
thanks, david

If I remember right, all 3xxx models share a common rear end, with the exception of the 3550 and some of the Series 10 models, which use a double reduction rear like the 4xxx models. It should be a straight forward swap.
(Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Ring & pinion ratios might be different for a 3500 but it is a bolt up swap. As FF says, the 3550 is a different configuration.

If the 3400 has a PTO and the 3500 doesn't, you won't be gaining a PTO just by swapping rear axles. You would also need to modify the 3500 transmission or swap in the 3400 transmission along with the rear end.

Hello David , Yes it will bolt up , but no it is not ok and definately not as Heavy Duty and you will break the 3400 behind a 3500 INDUSTRIAL . Thanks Tony

Hello Ford Farmer , Sorry but I will correct you . 3500 Industrial rear ends are all by themselves , they bolt up to a 3000 AG or a 3400 Utility but everything is bigger and more Heavy Duty , center housing , axle tubes , axle shafts , diff and ring and pinion also diff lock was never offered because of that , just a much better rear end and lower gear ratio also . Thanks Tony

Tony,
perhaps I don't have a 3500 rear end on it now. because mine has a diff lock. has it been swapped already?

Hello David, That is possible as is that it is not even a 3500 to begin with ? why don't you post some pictures of it so we can see what you have ? It could be a 3400 or a 3400 with a 3500 transmission in it . Thanks Tony
