801 Diesel 12v alternator conversion

Well I finally had to break down and ask my first question because I can't find it anywhere. I see wiring diagrams for 12 v alt conversions with gas and I see diesel diagrams with original generators but not exactly what I need. I don't want to burn up anything so if anyone has an 801 DIESEL, ALTERNATOR CONVERSION with the manifold heater wiring diagram I sure would love to look at it. I don't like to take bits and pieces from different diagrams if I don't have too. Great forum site, thanks for any info you can give me.

One wire alternator or not? You will not find the manifold heater wiring integrated into the primary wiring diagram, because to the best of my knowledge, it was always shown as a separate diagram. I guess some enterprising individual could combine them?
 

The manifold heater wiring is very simple. You run a heavy (8 gauge) wire from the Battery side of the starter solenoid (Ford part number 311006) to one of the large posts on another 311006 solenoid. Another 8 gauge wire from the other large post to the manifold heaters. One small post on the solenoid to Ground and the other small post connected to the switched side of the junction block through a Normally Open spring loaded push button switch. Turn the key ON, push the switch, the second solenoid closes and the heaters receive juice.
 
Someone ask me a while back to alter one of my diagrams to show him how to hook up the heaters.
While it is very crude because I just threw it together it does show how to hook up the heaters.

1) You can leave off the amp gauge if you do not want it.
2) you can use a one way diode OR the dash warning light you 801 should have. Your choice.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I got it figured out today. One
question I'm not sure about. I'm using the diesel wiring
harness from DC and it has to modified for the alternator. This
is a one wire alt. Can the alt wire go straight from the
alternator to the battery side of the solenoid before it goes
through the warning light. The wire harness is set up that way
for use with a generator and the diagram it came with is in
conflict with several others I've seen. Also the wires for the
warning light are only about 16-18 gauge. Is this correct?

lt output to batt side of solenoid, as you say. No way to use idiot light with one wire alternator.

eally depends on what VR has been installed in your one wire alternator (warning, there are many different VR that are 'one wire'). If you are lucky, and have the 'right' VR in yours, then just tie the idiot light wire to spade terminal # 1 on your alt & it will work, but..............for others, it will not.

While one of the jobs of the diode/warning light is to prevent feedback into the ignition system of a gas engine
Another reason for using the diode is so your tractor does not catch on fire and this applies equally to the diesel motor tractors.

See there are situations where a alternator could try to charge the battery threw the #1 wire. This wire is to small to handle this; so it would overheat; melting the wire coating; causing a short; that could cause a fire.

Cheap insurance to add the warning light or a $1 diode even though it may seem it is not needed so you can be assured it is wired and will work like the engineers designed the alternator to work.
