Went to a auction where the farm that had been in the owners family for 130 years. Pictures are of a ford 4000 they bought new and was their big / only tractor for at least 25 years. Several nabors were that that remember having their corn picked with that tractor. So here is one SOS that earned it keep. Son-in-law said that it was never rebuilt and worked as normal. Only problem I have with him was he also told me that he always used the clutch to shift. I have posted a picture of the inching pedal - note the wear. Also posting a few numbers off of it. I did not expect to see that high of a serial number. Thought the 64 year started about 389xx so expected last serial number to be in the 50xxx range not 75xxx. Did the row crop have a different number range?

Be nice if you had posted the sale price. Apparently use of the inching pedal didn't hurt it much.

Ohio $1300 - - - they did not start or move it before the auction started - - - and only ran it for 2 minutes or less when it came up for sale. No other equipment to speak of, to keep crowd around to the end when equipment sold. It did have lots of play in the steering worm gear, and both final drives had a couple of odd ball bolts in the top where studs were replaced.

Even though this series tractor officially ended in '64, some were built into at least '65. I have one that's built in June of '65. Exact duplicate of this one, except mine's a diesel and has PA rims.

fortunately it's pretty easy to remove thrust from the main steering box assuming the bearings are not already gone. That's one think i like about that box vs the regular ford boxes.

Looks a lot like dads 62 4000 SOS. dads has a wide front. I use the inching pedal when I shift down from the higher gears.

Dad gave $2000 for his in 2001. Then put $3000 in it. The engine was completely shot. Even the crank was too far gone to grind.

We could never get the power steering cylinder to stop leaking. We put two $60 Ford seals in it before we decided to remove the power steering.
