Select O Speed Fun (Ford 6000)

My Grandfather recently past and I have aquired his 1963 Ford 6000. The tractor has sat in his barn for the last 14 years. Even though it's hard to find parts for my Grandpa owned it since 1967 and I think it deserves a restore. I already own another 6000, ran till the rod went through the block. So it is now a good parts tractor.

With that being said here are some issues I am looking at.

Select O Speed lost 1 3 5 and 7 shortly after I got it running. After research on here I read (Larry NCKS) that it is most likely the C3 seals. NH parts page shows that most of these seals are still available. I would like to know from one of you Select O Speed experts if replacing these seals is a feasible option and what other seals I should replace while im in the transmission.

I do have a known good transmission but I would like the experience of tearing down one of these beasts. I own an 871 as well and love the Select O Speed. Any good info would be appreciated.

Replace ALL seals, O-rings, gaskets, clutch discs, etc., anytime the transmission is disassembled. Replace the bands if inspection shows evidence of anything other than minor wear.

Do you know if there is a anywhere that has a list of wearable parts and seals for this task(rebuild kit). I will stare at the NH parts page and hope I get everything if necessary. Just wondering if there's anyone out there that has a good list of parts.

Check with a GOOD auto parts store.

Once upon a time, and, perhaps, still, regional distributors supplied automatic transmission overhaul kits to auto parts stores and transmission shops.

Once upon a time, such kits were available for the S-O-S.

I wouldn't replace any more parts than I had to. Check the clutch discs and piston out. Maybe replace the seals, but as for the discs, leave those alone unless they're worn badly or are warped.

I have had to replace the C sun shaft and distributor in a '63 4000 SOS with many, many hard hours on the clock, because of wear in the seal areas.

As you've apparently already read, the C sun shaft rings are the most likely culprit here.
