I wenbt to start my reliable 640 and it wouldnt fire. Found found gas leaking quickly from the carb at the air hose intake and the choke lever on the carb housing. Took carb off and a few cups of gas splashed out! It was sloshing. Do I need a carb rebuilt, a float replaced or adjusted, or a new tank on off switch, ( I dont usually turn the gas line off at the tank wen parking, should I?)

You either need a float adjustment, or the float got hung up on the sidewall.
Might have a bad needle.
Another possibility is the float has a hole in it and is taking on gas.

Thanks a bunch. If a stuck float, would a few
bangs on the carb fix it? Spray cleaner? Take it
apart or to the shop? Thanks.

yes, maybee , no.

SEE if a rap ont he side fixes it. if so. may have been stuck float or a piece of dirt got dislodged.

if it keeps leaking. pull carb.. check floats, needle, seat.

Yes you should turn the fuel off when you park it, you see why.
I would also check the oil level to make sure none got in there.

As to the fix the others have you on the right track.
Float may be sinking or stuck, needle and seat worn out,
gasket under the seat worn out, seat worked loose, etc.
Not as likely to be out of adjustment "all of a sudden".
