Pics from my archive - Ever seen many of these?

Slow night working on the tractor, so I was on the computer and ran across these pics. Tractor I saved back in 2009. Sold to a friend, and is undergoing a full restoration now.

It's rough, but a pretty neat one. 971-1, single wheel front, 172 gasser SOS, power steering, spin out wheels. I didn't pay as much attention then, but see now that it has a Rest-O-Ride seat, the deep step draw bar, and a tool box, too.

Anyway, just thought I'd post up some pics. Enjoy.

The single wheel front seems to be much less common than the dual wheel types. I've never actually seen one. Yes, it did look pretty rough. Grille looks straight though. Interesting hookup on the steering cylinder hoses. Did you have it running and driving before you sold it?

Yeah, that was/is the only single-wheel setup I've ever seen. I didn't do a thing to it. Brought it home, thought to myself "why do I really want this?", made some calls, and it was gone. Folks that bought it do a great job restoring stuff, and I'm sure it's gonna be nice when it's done. I need to check up and see what kind of progress they're making.

(quoted from post at 00:16:51 09/17/14) Looks like that trailer was custom made for that tractor.

LOL, what you're seeing with that trailer is actually a piece of I-beam that we laid down so the front wheel could ride on. That was my biggest head-scratcher about the whole deal. Fellow I got the tractor from said that he had some metal I could have that would work. And it did.

Still has the OEM sway bar on the right side.

You can fabricate one for the left side.

Texas sold me a 951 a few years back with a single front.

Why does it say 901 on the hood and not 971?

I have always wondered how the 801 and 901 fit
into the Ford model numbering system? I know
the 941 is a four speed and the 951 is 4 speed
without LPTO. 961 has LPTO and a 5 speed. The
871 and 981 are SOS. Where does the 901 fit in
the line up?
Did the early models all have 801 or 901 on
the hood reguardless of transmission type?

my neighbor has a 801D. looks just like a 861

From the introduction of the X01 SERIES tractors in 1957 until about mid-1960 the exact MODEL was noted in the hood decal- ie: 851, 961, 871, 981. Then some beancounter decided that method required too many decals had to be kept in stock so the MODEL number was deleted form the decal and the SERIES number replaced it. Thus you see the decals that say only 801 or 901 although the full MODEL number was still stamped into the transmission.

So that's how the X01 models came about. My
neighbor may have a 651 or 661 then. it's for sale
I'll have to look at the transmission numbers.
Last time I asked she wanted $7000. It has a bad
injector pump and both rear tires are bad. Plus it
has a problem with 3rd gear. I was hoping the
longer it sets the cheaper it would get. At least
it's inside.

$7,000 for a 661 or 651!!!

That is about $4,000 too high for a very good one with NO issues.

As described: $500 - $750.

I made a mistake. It is a 851 or 861. yes I know $7000 too high. I could get a good 860 for $3800 around here if I watch.

What happened is her husband died in 09. His best friend borrowed the tractor and it was not returned until last year when he died. he filled it with crappy diesel and ruined the injectors and the pump. The son of the guy that borrowed it paid to have new injectors installed but wouldn't pay for a new pump.

besides the pump it needs both rear tires, the 3rd gear has a problem, all the gauges are broken.
It is sitting in her shed only three people know it's there. I'm hoping her price will come down to a few hundred.

my 2000 offset only has the right side sway bar. did they come from the factory with only a right side bar ?
thanks.
