Hi, All,
In the course of getting a 3/4 dead 841 running again, I rebuilt the carb - probably the 4th or 5th MS carb I have rebuilt. Its a big carb appropriate for the 172 engine, but the numbers have rubbed off the brass tag. I used a kit form this website that said appropriate for 172 ci engine. All the new parts seemed to match the old parts.
The tractor ran fine (without any real load, but I could drive it around the driveway) until I went to trailer it to a field nearby. When I started it to get it on the trailer, it seemed fuel starved and indeed the sediment bowl by the carburetor was bright rusty orange. I cleaned it out, cleaned the screen, did OK, but problem recurred in a week.
I disconnected the (new) fuel line at the carb and opened the valve under the tank- steady strong stream of clean gas (I strained it) .
I"ll reclean the carb, but I am confused where the rusty orange crud in the sediment bowl is coming from when the gas from the tank is so clean and flowing so well.
thanks in advance.
Bill
