Ford 2110LCG glow plugs

Were glow plugs standard on a '71 2110LCG? How do you tell if they are installed and if installed if they are operational?

Assuming you have a diesel -
Ford never offered a glow plug on the 3 cylinder engines.
The one cold weather starting aid they did offer was called Thermostart.
It is kind of a glow plug in your intake manifold that heats up and allowes a trickle of diesel fuel to enter it. The fuel catches on fire and heats the air in the intake manifold.
If you have one it will be installed where you see the plug in the photo below.

Thanks Ultradog. Yes - 3 cyl diesel. There is a pull switch just below the kill switch on the dash and thought it may have been for the glowplugs. I need to do a lot more digging on this unit.

That is (SHOULD be) your light switch.
If the thermostart is there and hooked up as from he factory, it's
activated by the key switch. Turn the key as if to start, but don't
turn it quite all the way to the start position. The heater
activates between the start and run positions.

Some of them had a different key switch with "Off" in the middle and regular run and start positions to the right and "Heat" and Heat Start" positions to the left.

If controlled by the key, how long would you let the key sit in that position to allow the element to heat up properly?

The Owner's manual says to hold the key in the "Heat" position for 30 seconds and then turn it to the "Start" position, and if the engine doesn't start after 25 seconds of cranking, then return it to the "Heat" position for an additional 15 seconds and then turn it to the "Start" position again.
