am thinking of doing a dual power rebuild to tw5.
itt manual says post splitting to not allow tran
mainshaft to move forward when removing dp
housing. fabricate pip which bears against
mainshaft and is secured to pto shaft. got tool
pics ? installed pics ? am confused

First off, it's rarely necessary to remove the DP housing during a DP rebuild unless the direct-drive clutch seal groove area is worn, and that doesn't happen very often. You can remove the underdrive plates and piston with the housing right where it sits. Same thing with the control valve. Why remove it if you don't need to?

If you do have to remove the housing, I don't recall the mainshaft moving as a big issue on those rigs. If it comes out, push it back in. It might have been a bigger issue with the older tractors that had the non-retained needle thrust bearing behind the mainshaft, but on the newer rigs like your TW, said needle bearing is retained by a snap ring, so it's a non-issue.

Carry on.

Would love to see pics of the rebuild.. when you get around to it. I have not been in that tranny...Thanks and good luck..

If he's just doing the DP, you won't see much of the trans itself, since the DP sits in the front of the main trans. As for the DP itself, it looks just like any other Ford DP.
