Ford 2600 Tractor Gas

First, let me say Welcome to the Yesterday's Tractors Ford forum.

Second, let me say... Get yourself an operators manual and a service manual if you don't already have them.

Third, does it have a front end loader? If it does, then there are likely two separate hydraulic systems, one for the loader and another one for the 3 point lift. If not, then there's just the 3 point lift hydraulics.

For the 3 point hydraulics system, there should be a level check hole with a square headed pipe plug on the right side, near where your right heel is located when you're sitting on the tractor. There should also be a fill hole with a large hex head plug on top of the rear axle center housing, under your right butt cheek as you're sitting on the tractor. The drain hole is on the bottom of the rear axle center housing. The filter should be a spin-on type on the mounting block for the pump which should be on the left side of the engine at the rear near the flywheel.

Pull the fill plug, level check plug and drain plug to drain the system. Then replace the filter and install the drain plug again. Then fill through through the top fill hole until fluid just begins to drip out of the level check hole on the side and then put the last two plugs back in.

Thank you for your help. I will get the operators manual, and service manual. I do not have a front end loader, but the gentleman I purchased the tractor told me it has "Dual Hydraulics." I used my "Oliver 60 Standard" for over 35 years to do my mowing. The King Kutter bush hog wore out, and I purchased the Ford. I like this tractor, and it runs well but the 3pt hydraulics needs a little attention. I will take your advice and purchase those two manuals.

Thank you again

The "Dual Hydraulics" probably means that it has 2 remote valves to run external implements, so there is most likely two control handles on a valve block down in front of the seat with 4 hoses going to two pairs of couplers at the back of the tractor. They should all run off of the 3 point hydraulics system.

Yes there are two handles under the seat. I am looking forward to getting everything into shape with the tractor. This tractor is just what I need to work around our place. I am thankful for your help also. It does have a roll bar, and a sun roof as I call it. Soon I expect to have the tractor looking like a new tractor.

Sounds like a nice tractor. Post some pictures when you get a chance.

The hydraulic system is still fairly straightforward in the 2600, so you should be able to service it yourself. If you do need to pull the top cover to service anything I recommend going ahead and replacing all of the o-rings and seals under there at the same time and also going through all of the adjustment procedures outlined in the service manual. That way you don't have to open it up again for a good ling while.

Here's some vocabulary tips.

"Roll Bar" = ROPS (Roll Over Protection System)
"Sunroof" = Canopy

I had to put the tractor aside over they winter. However I am looking for a service manual for the Ford 2600 hydraulics so I can make the repairs. I was told that I will need to remove the seat / top cover. With that in mind I think I need a good manual to follow before I start to make repairs. I am wondering if you know what manual I should purchase covering the Ford 2666. Thank you for all you help.

This site sells the I&T aftermarket service manual here:

Or you can get the original Ford shop on ebay for a little bit more money:

For my 4000 I have the I&T manual plus a scanned copy of the Ford shop manual as a PDF file on a CD. The I&T covers most things on the tractor, but occasionally if something is not clear in the I&T manual then I go to the computer and look at the same procedure in the Ford manual.

I'm not sure if this is true for the 2600, but for older models the Ford shop manual only listed certain procedures for adjusting the internal components of the hydraulic system that required specialized tools that were only available to Ford dealerships back then and are generally no longer available anywhere, whereas the I&T manual lists "alternate" procedures that do not require the specialized tools, so if you are only going to get one manual to start and you're working on the hydraulics I would recommend the I&T manual.

When you go to remove the lift cover be sure that the 3 point is down, or you or your helper will get an hydraulic oil bath.
