Need to know year of tractor

:D Can any one tell me the year of my tractor. Ford 4000 diesel
3 cylinder sn# B884082 also which operator Manuel I need.
Is this a special or plain tractor?

If it was a U.S. built model (serial number beginning with a C), I
could tell you the year. I don't know of a year/serial number
breakdown for A or B serial numbers. If you can find the unit
number, that will tell the year, month, day, and even the shift
that finished the assembly of your tractor. It's an alpha-numeric
code.... should look something like 6C15B. Should be stamped
near the serial number.

As Fordfarmer said, B884082 is a Basildon UK serial number, so it was made over there, and unfortunately the European serial numbers are not well documented as to what range of serial numbers were made in which year, but it seems like a pretty high number for a 4000. The US "C" serial numbers only made it up to C4xxxxx range by the time they stopped making the thousand series and had moved on to the x600 series. But itis possible that they made twice as many tractors (or more) at basildon than at the US plant.

As Fordfarmer also said, post the other numbers on the tractor and we might be able to tell you the exact day it was made and what exact model it is along with what options it had when it left the factory.

Or post some pictures of the hood and steering setup and we can at least give you a range of years that it's likely to fall into.

As to it being "special", can't tell that from just the serial number.

The only number above the s#0D9

April 9, 1970. Should have integral power steering
gear, power steering pump with integral reservoir
and grille panels inset in cowl shell, not wrap
around lower grille. No vents in hood panels if
original.

Thank for the info my tractor was made in Basildon UK
I965 B884082 is England made. They stop making fords in 1939 in the USA. Then moved to UK.

Dunno where you heard that they quit making Fords in the U.S.
in 1939. They quit building Fordsons here some years prior to
that, but many thousands of Ford tractors were built in
Michigan between 1939 and the early 1990's. Counting my
son's 4000, there are 7 Fords on my farm right now, and 6 of
them are U.S. built.

I thought that they moved all tractor production to Europe in 1987 when the serial numbers switched to the double letters starting with BA, then BB, BC, BD, etc.).
