I have been having trouble with my Ford 4600 tractor with the temperature gauge running into the red. Put a new thermostat on and that did help. I'm thinking about replacing the temperature sending unit but cant locate it. Can anyone help or offer suggestions. The tractor goes into the red after just 15 minutes of running.

Is it a false indication, or is the tractor really getting hot? Keep in mind that you may have a head gasket leak. Symptoms: Gets hot very quickly. Small bubbles in coolant when it gets hot.

You can get a test kit for combustion gases in the coolant at auto parts stores. Costs about $40.

I'd still suspect a voltage stabilizer if you have a pre-1979 rig. Remove the dash with the wires still attached and turn the key on. Probe both terminals of the stabilizer (looks like a circuit breaker or flasher relay) with a test light. One should be hot all the time, the other should pulse on and off. If they are both on solid all the time (wait at least 30 seconds or so), stabilizer is faulty and this is why your temp gauge reads high.
