I have been using the c45l in my 850 The book says .027 for factory gap.The gap for the c45l says .035.If anyone is using these ,what gap are you doing? Thanks Don

why use a gap other than ford reccomended. you know.. the engineers that designed that machine...????

raising the gap will increase the KV needed to jump it.

there's no free lunch here...

The factory gap applied to h-10 champion correct air gap was .025 to .028. SORRY Sound Guy i failed to mention this will be converted to 12 volt and pertronix electronic ignition. I looked further and see that the C45L crosses to H-12 Champion which is a hotter plug.Would this have any bearing on on the proper gap? The Ford shop manual says nothing on gapping the h-12 only h10.Thanks Don

gap determines the high voltage potential at moment of arc.

larger gap = more KV = more wear ont he systems handling that.. like arcing at points, erosion of the plugs electrodes and the coil.

6v / 12v makes no difference.

if you have the same plug gap.. the kv at moment of arc is the same.

if you are going with a pertronix unit, use what they say to use for a plug, plug gap and coil.. as any warranty issues will be between you and them.

heat range doesn't directly play into this.
