Rest-O-Ride rubber springs

Quick question about Rest-O-Ride rubber seat springs. I understand the place in Minnesota that rebuilt them has closed up, and the only available versions are repops with questionable quality. Has anyone found an alternative or a particular repop version that will last? Hate to spend the money and have new ones fail on me.

Thanks,
Kevin

The torsion springs available from CNH are reliable but expensive.

Not sure of the source of these.

Thanks Dean.

Let me ask another question: These same rubber torsion springs are used on other manufacturers' suspension seats, correct? Meaning, I should probably sniff around on some other forums and cast a wider net?

Somebody has to make a decent one. Am cringing at the thought of looking up the CNH price. But I will check...

Thanks,
Kevin

Torsion springs used on the seats of other tractor brands, e.g., JD, Oliver, etc. are of the same fundamental design but not interchangeable with Ford springs.

Lots of places sell imported reproductions.

All or nearly all will fail within months.

BTDT.

Dean,
So what you are saying is that if I don't want to have 'em fail in a few months, there is only ONE option at this time: OEM (CNH) parts.

Well, that means there will be no repops on my machine. It's a bite-the-bullet deal. I ain't paying twice.

Thanks,
Kevin

Since the demise of Minn-Kota Repair, I know of no reliable supplier of torsion springs other than the OEMs. I do not know where they source theirs.

There may be some reliable reproductions these days, but I know of none. I have tried imported reproductions in the past with dissapointing results.

I had been sitting on two sets of worn torsion springs that I had planned to have rebuilt by Minn-Kota to keep as spares but I procrastinated too long. Like most, I did not anticipate that they would cease operations.

FWIW: I have never had a Minn-Kota torsion spring fail, and I have four rebuilt Rest-O-Ride seats, all with Minn Kota springs.

Thanks again. All is understood.

Just hit Messicks site and it looks like CNH parts are $105 and $67 for the two parts. Ugggghhh. Gotta sit on this for a few days. Do I really, really want a ROR seat on there that bad is the question I have to ask myself. Probably, but need to let the sting wear off some.

If it helps to put things into perspective, even a cheap, replacement high back seat is going to cost you a C Note and a used original pan style seat will run you half of that. The original pan style aint as comfy either though you can improve them some with a tie on padded cover - for another $25 or so.

I think that the chances that Fiat is manufacturing these is very slight. They buy them somewhere and triple the price. Why pay triple?
