I piddled around with the tractors today and decided to put the disc behind the 850. I got the tractor for $800 because the PO said it had a blow by. I have yet to see this so after getting some OP yesterday I wanted to work it for a while and let it show me what it was gonna do. The disc was on the N so i pulled it down to a nice flat spot in the drive, dropped it and pulled the 850 in behind. Got er all hooked up and the lift doesnt get it off the ground :( It didnt seem like it wouldnt pick it up, just that it wouldnt go quite high enough to get it off the ground. Well, im discn anyways. I pulled up the drive nice and slow and into the field. Lets try 2nd. Just guessing but we will say 16-1800 rpm. WOW. Ease back on the throttle and go to 3rd. I know im looking at twice the hp but WOW. What would have had the 8n a huffin and a puffin, and that 850 didnt know it was even pullin anything. I think i may like this tractor.

If the temp gauge was working right we got up to around 190* getting about 35psi OP on 10w-30 at work.

I almost forgot the best part. No blow by. None at all that i could see. Let the rings soak with a little trans fluid for a few days, maybe that done it. Smokes a little from the exaust but not bad, and i think that might be partly from a rich mix. No smoke at all once we got goin good, at least not enough that i could see it. Carb needs cleaned out and maybe a little adjustn ;)

The 3pt moves exactly as it should except it just doesnt go up very far. Travels quickly, no noise, responsive...

UD, I know ive seen u recomend other (newer fords) tractors to people n the past, but I never knew. Lol

those 800-801 series are good strong tractors.
Don't look much bigger than an N, until you put them to work, then you see....WAY bigger.
Once you get it all sorted out, add about a thousand pounds of weight to it (filled tires, weights, etc) and it will really pull.
In fact, a 800 will usually show you which implements you own that are weak.... :D

Your engine doesn't sound bad.
If you get some blowby out the valve cover vent when warm and working hard,
a hose connecting the vent to the air cleaner intake will get the smoke/fumes.....behind you.

Well the 850 is right in the 45HP range so almost twice the horses of the N series so yes it will play with something that a N series has a hard time with

Funny thing is the N will pull and grunt and groan and the tires will slip, its a little work to keep everything moving forward. The 850 for all the extra power never offered to slip the least bit. The tires on the N are in much better shape, and the right one is loaded. I guess that 850 just weighs a lot more and has a little bigger feet.

My uncle suggested that i take the lift arms loose at the splines and turn them further up. The arms drop nearly to the ground now. He was saying that someone probably fixed them that way for some unknown reason. It makes since, i have no need of them going down that far.

n oe tire size is 11.2-28, 850 is 13.6-28

ps yer idea of re-aligning the upper lift arms on the rockshaft will be a tad difficult!

So before i go to hammering and prying and sweating, hows about elaborating on ur previous comment SG. Let me guess, they only go on one way?

They are similar to the splined sector shafts and steering arms on your steering box in that they are indexed so they only go on in one position.

Thankyou. Saves me the trouble of finding out the hard way. I have a gasket set on the way, so i guess next weekend or maybe the week after im gonna open it up and c whats goin on in there. If the arms arent put on wrong then im guessing the control rod is bent? Guess we will find out when we get there.
