cav pumps noisy?

got the valves adjusted on the 3600 today, much quieter. the gaps were about 0.050, much better now. but now with the valve adjusment, i can hear all sorts of new sounds, one of which was the cav pump clicking away. wasn"t annoyingly loud, but very noticeable.

do these cav pumps click like that normally? or does it sound like it needs a rebuild?

You should hear some 3 cylinder pumps running on a test stand. Some are really noisy at certain full load speeds, much louder than 4 or 6 cylinder pumps. 3 cylinder pumps actually have a 6 lobe cam ring, but recycle 3 unused deliveries within the hydraulic head which can add greatly to the noise.

I doubt it's as loud as a Bosch P pump. I could not believe the racket that thing made when I put it on a stand.
