Wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for their help and suggestions. I moved a wire from the small terminal on the solenoid to the start button and ran another wire from the battery side of the terminal to the ignition switch. Charged the battery on low for about 10 hours. Hooked up battery after work, turned key on, hit starter button and it fired right up. Then died. Started checking stuff and found the tab on the end or the rotor was pointing sideways and the plastic by it is missing a chunk. Straighten the tab and gave it a crimp to hold it in place, tried it and it fired up again. I'll replace the rotor next week, but I think this problem is solved, for a while anyway.
Thanks again everyone ...
