631 PTO seal change fluid refill

I just change the seal on my PTO shaft. Of course being a newbie with this whole tractor thing, I pulled the shaft cover off and out came all the fluid. I got every thing back together without too much trouble. I put new fluid in the fill port just below the seat and now when I pull the dip stick out to check the fluid the case is so full it runs out the dip stick hole. Should I drain some of this out and pour it into the after most fill port? Or will it equalize into both compartments when I run the tractor?

I have not run the tractor yet as I have to get the broken goose neck off to install the new muffler, and that is being a real challenge without removing the intake/exhaust manifold off as the bolts are extremely rusted.

Thanks any help the group can offer!

That tractro should have 3 sumps for oil.
#1 is for the transmission
#2 the hyds which is where the dip stick is and
#3 is for the rear ends.
If all the seals are as they should be no the oil will not equalize

Pulling the pto shaft on a straigh gear model 55-64 tractor drains Hyds and rear end, Hyds fill under the seat, about 2g, then, diffy folks in plug right side, behind the seat, sounds like Hyds WA overfull and diffy empty.

Pays to have a service mania before servicing ;)

Thanks guys for the advice. I'll drain out about 3 gallons out of the hydro section and put that in the diff housing.

Thanks again!

the fill for the differential is back of the right side of the seat. look about where the left lift arm attaches to the left axle trumpet. there is a square headed plug. remove the plug. pour hyd fluid into the fill hole till it runs out of the plug hole on the left.

The transmission and rear end both take 80-90 GL-5 gear lube and the hydraulics use hydraulic fluid. Don't drain out of hydro and put in rear end.
