3 point wont lock down

While using the box blade on Ford 2000 3 cyl diesel I found the 3 point won't lock in down position. The box blade will float up and not dig in. Any ideas, or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Normal function. 3pt hitch on almost all tractors do not have down pressure or positive hold. Use weight or cutting edge angle to keep the blade in the work.

That's where a hydraulic top link comes in handy.
Just got done dragging the caliche back up my driveway after a recent rainstorm relocated it.
Really comes in handy when running the scarifies.

Forgot got to add, I'm running a heavy duty 7' behind my 640.

as rickb said. normal.. and if it did not dig in the implement is either too light or not angled to cut.. or both.

Aftermarket 3 pt on a Farmall has down pressure.
Same on my two cylinder Deeres.
Not on a Ford though and I'm happy for that.
Locking it down breaks things!
Adjust the top link to dig as needed and let it float.

aftermarket don't count.

I can bolt a paintbrush onto a tractor and then claim trracots have paintbrushes! :)

almost no small tractors made with 3pt, have downpressure on that 3pt.

there are a few scut sized rare exceptions.. and then when you get into big ag/ industrial units.. you see it.

Ford 3 points are power up gravity down so NO it will not lock it self down and yes it does float. So the fix is weight and angle set correctly

Reading thru a Farmall Fast-Hitch manual, about the only times they want the downpressure pin in the hitch is with the drawbar installed to hold its position, or to lift the tractor to change a tire.
Many cautions in the manual about not using it to control an implements depth.
