leaky fuel petcocks on 00/01 series machines are nothing new.

pull yours apart.. if it is an oring style you can usually revive it with a new oring. I have seen some that were bras on brass and there isn't much hope for them.

if it has a rivit retaining the lever.. drill it out and tap for a small machine screw when you go back together.

the gas valve under the tank on the 00/01/000 4 cyl can be removed , slowly, carefully, with tank and valve cover in place.

You can R & R the fuel shut off valve without removing the sheet metal and tank.

You will need a 5/16" (IIRC) combination wrench and a good 1/2" open end wrench for the flare nut. It helps if your hands are not too large.

You will struggle with it the first time you do it but the next time will be routine. I can R & R one such valve in less than 30 minutes but I've had lots of practice. I spend more time draining and replenishing the gasoline than changing the valve.

Do your self a big favor and use the proper O ring and do not over tighten the valve bolts.
