shop manual recommendation for 62 ford 4000?

hello, im wondering which shop manual i should by to support my 1962 ford 4000 light industrial.

i have been told it shares the 3 point hitch and most other features with the 800 900 etc.

i was wondering if i am better off getting the reprint of the ford manual for 55-60 for 100, and 101 series tractors, or get the IT branded one that is said to cover the 100 series and the 4000.
i have just heard the and expect the ford manuals are better than the IT.

It manuals are cheap, buy both. It will get you thru general maint and light repair

A lot depends on how good of a wrench you are.
If you are pretty familiar around old iron an I&T FO-20 manual will give you all the specs and info you need.
The FO-20 covers most models built from 55-64.
The differences between your light industrial and a regular ag model are negligible.
If I was wanting to work on one of the big Fords like the 7000 and above I would probably spring for the expensive Ford manual.
But I've worked on everything from Ns to 5000s and never needed more than an I&T.

SG has good advise for the 4 cylinder prior models. The reproduction factory manual doesn't cost much more than the I&T. Buy both.

Matt, buy 'em both like mentioned earlier. I had an 861 before my '62 4000 like yours and I use both of them for the 4000. The I&T can be found on Ebay for around $20 or so and I bought the 3 manual set for the 000 and 001 series that includes the shop manual, O&M manual and parts catalog for around $50. The ALL come in handy. The 4000 early 4 cylinder models are pretty close to the 001's except for the tin.

In the old days, I used to buy every manual, but with a lot of different tractors, that can add up.
Nowadays, buying an IT manual and either buying or downloading an owners manual will get me by.

But, the online parts breakdowns and diagrams from
Messicks or equivalent dealers, for example, those I can't do without.
Sitting down with a beer or 2 the night before a repair and studying those diagrams is invaluable.
"ok, I get it' and when I start the actual repair, it all seems familiar.
I truly hope they are available forever.

And let's not forget this site, searching the archives finds all kinds of tips and gotchas from guys with grease on their hands.
As an example, a respected regular here, has posted links to the 'blue ribbon magneto service' pages numerous times, that has helped many, me included.

im handy, just not familiar with tractors at all.
