New non running tractor to me. just trying to get it going. Checked SOS fluid and it is red like automatic transmission fluid. Is that correct. I assumed it would look like hydraulic fluid

You are absolutely correct. Original spec was M2C 41. Current spec is 134D. It should be tanish in color like hydraulic fluid.

oil color means little.

I have seen 2 different red colored UTF oils.

I've seen green tinted UTF oils. as well as the honey to dark amber oils.. etc.

In any event. on a new-to-you machine, all fluids should be changed to start a basline.

Change the oil and clean the suction strainer.

Of course you will operate the tractor until the transmission oil is fully to operating temperature before draining.

Unfortunately, at this time, you cannot buy a new transmission oil filter (stay tuned).
