Looking for any info good or bad on a Ford tractor 1979 7600 2 wheel drive , Are these dependable machines ? or do they have a history of issues ? Any input would be appricated.

Mine is just under 8000 hours, and the engine has never been opened up. It's been split twice - once for a clutch and once for a leaking transmission input shaft seal. The pto drive hub was also replaced at that time.
Probably the biggest potential problem would be cylinder wall cavitation, if the owner(s) haven't used coolant conditioner. Mostly they're just a good reliable, efficient tractor.

They are fairly dependable machines and have plenty of power for their size. We have a 5200, 6600 and a 7600, buddy of mine has 2 7700 and a 7200. His one 7700 is on its 3rd engine, lots of hours and lots of heavy work, was their big tractor for years.

The trouble with that size Ford is they tend to get used for everything and like any machine they do wear out. I would not trust the hour meter, look at the pedal and foot tread wear, it will give you a good idea of how much its been used. See if it has the orginal 256 or its been replaced with a later 'web' block 268.

The PTO drive hub and shaft will wear out at some point, usually get 2 hubs per shaft and when its time to replace the shaft the pto brake is usually due.

I've see it happen once and heard about it a bunch of times, friend of ours has a 7000 that caviated through the cylinder wall, I'd say thats about the only major engine issue aside from normal wear and tear.

My buddy bought a fairly rough looking one probably eight years ago when his 6710 wouldn't pull his new 9 ft discbine it has a leak from the steering that I don't believe that he has fixed. After two years or so I told him about changing the oil in the injection pump. It gets a lot of use, and it has a lot of hours and just keeps working.

The 65 and up 4 cylinder tractors are tuff. If they are serviced. I know of many with over 15,000 hrs that have never had the pan off.
