3600 engine adjustments

Got the 3600 oil pressure checked today, cold it was 67 lbs, about 60lbs warmed up. got the oil sensor light to work finally as well- rat chewed the wire. i am going thru the new machine trying to get things tuned up.

I have driven a few 3600s/3000s/4600s the last couple of months shopping for the one i finally bought. I noticed the engines are fairly loud, all of them. not only general noise level, but they all seem to have a type of what sounds like compression knock or something? I am use to hearing my small 3 cyl dexta which is very quiet compared to these bigger 3 cyl"s.

How do you know if the knock is just normal or not?

I will be adjusting the valves this weekend, I usually spray my valve cover gasket with high tack and stick it to the cover when replacing. Is it a good idea to use the tacky spray or not?

I too have a 3600 and that is just normal for those Ford 3clys. I also have a David Brown 880 3 cyl and it is just as noisy as those Fords. I also had a Super Dexta 3cyl and there is no comparison (keep in mind that 152cu/in the Dexta is very comparable to the 152 Perkins in the '35 MF's)

No getting around it - 3-cylinder Fords diesels are noisy. The 3000/3600's seem a bit worse than 4000/4600's... to me, anyway. Best advice I can give you in that regard is to make sure you have a good muffler on it. Oval ones tend to be quieter than round ones.

My 6610 is noisy, but a real solid tractor. Does that have an inline pump? If so make sure and change the oil in it.
