There is a wire going form the starter button into the top cover which I assume is to ensure tractor is in park. I also have a wire coming out of the Selecto speed gear selctor box. Does someone know what this is for?

Correct.

"I also have a wire coming out of the Selecto speed gear selctor box. Does someone know what this is for?"
A light to illuminate the speed selector dial at night.

My 671 has the wire coming out of the transmission and it"s for a pressure switch that when working properly illuminates a light on the dash indicating low transmission hydraulic pressure.

Jack

The low pressure switch is located on the output side of the transmission in the hydraulic compartment and the wire to the pressure switch enters the hydraulic compartment through the round plate where the traction disconnect lever is located. The wire coming out of the top cover on the transmission is for the Park safety switch.
