Clutch Almost Gone? - 841S

Had planned on raking today with my 841 (hay got wet and wouldn't go up yesterday). Ever since I got this tractor back in March (my grandfather's old one, for those of you who haven't ready any of my numerous previous posts), the clutch has always engaged at the "top" of the range of motion of the pedal. It would be especially noticeable when in road gear. I'd let the clutch out to pull out (slowly, since that Sherman 4-over is pretty darned fast), and it would only partly engage. As the tractor pulled out and the engine recovered, it would come on "into gear."

This morning, Dad and I adjusted the travel on the pedal, so it "catches" lower in the pedal's range of motion. Still does the same thing. Dad thinks that's a sure-fire sign the clutch is about to go out (it wouldn't surprise me if we're talking about the original clutch), so we parked her and raked with another tractor.

Is this an indication that the clutch is about to go?

If it is in fact an 841S it is likely to have the combo 3 speed Sherman in it. Put it in neutral on the Sherman then pull out side ways. If it has the combo it will pull out about a 1/2 inch then you can slide it up or down do not remember which and that is the standard gear if would have if the Sherman was not there. My 841S has the Sherman factory combo in it and it took me 4 or so years to learn it had 12 forward gears

Yup, thanks to this forum, I learned about those 12 forward gears not long after I got this tractor. I'm not complaining about the speed, just commenting on it hahaha!

Still am wondering about my clutch, though...

Sure sounds like it is on its way out to me. Probably driving from the rivets by what you describe.
