hey all,
just got a couple of pics finally for the new 3600. she is awaiting her first bath. i have the hood in the barn. she cranks right up 2/3 turns, but does smoke for about 4-5 seconds before clearing up. although today i cranked in the barn to pull out to do some work-smoked for 4-5 seconds, an hour later cranked to move for washing-smoked for 2-3 seconds, 2 hours after finishing the washup I cranked it to put back in barn and it didn"t smoke at all.(any suggestions as to why?) she has a recent new starter, and a rebuilt injector pump about 3 years old. throw out bearing a little noisy.

the original owner bought her new in 1980, i bought her from him. he said it does leak a little ps fluid into the crankcase. i pulled the rops with canopy off before the wash, I cut alot of grass around trees with low branches. If anyone around south la is looking for one let me know. anyway, picked it up for $3200. did i do any good?
thanks to everyone for help on this board.

Congratulations on your blue acquisition! Pretty much all diesels of that era and many much newer ones smoked on start-up due to lack of compression until pistons and rings heat up and expand. The heat is retained inside for hours once warmed up so subsequent start-ups will generate less smoke.

The 3600 is a sweet tractor. But the ones I had did not smoke at
start up. If there is no big blow by, or used in a lots of oil, it will be
fine.

Injectors must be clean and combustion chamber must be at 400 degrees to fire cleanly.

when you first start it, all the head, pistons and cyls are cold and drawing away any heat. so it will take a few fire strokes to heat up the surrounding area so that it will be able to fully combust the fuel correctly. So other than running a good cleaner through it, you sound fine to me. Also it common for the exhast valve to seep a tine bit of oil when sitting up so that also had to be burnt clean or it will "slobber" a bit till it burns clean. some tractors will be worse than others..

run a can of bg44k through it and it will start quicker and smoke less, or some other COMMERCIAL grade injector cleaner.

Your tractor sound normal.. so an oil change with a good hd diesel oil will help clean up the rings and also help it. Change the oil every 500 hours or 5 years if you run the hd diesel oil.

and.. relax and enjoy your very fine tractor.
