Workmaster 601 Serial #

Hello all you more knowledgeable than I am tractor owners.

I just recently purchased a 641 workmaster. Was told that it is a 1959 model, but after looking at all of the serial number info out there and finding my serial number, I have a question.

My serial number appears to be 03664 Not 100 percent sure on the first 6 due to some rust and paint scratches, but am more interested to know if indeed the serial number begins with a 0(zero). I have cleaned and rubbed the area and looked at it from as many angles as I can and with different lighting from different angles and cannot see any other marks to indicate that the 0(zero) could be a 6 or 8. The reason I ask is because none of the listed numbers that I have seen online begin with a 0(zero).

One more note, what looks like a 0(zero) to me also looks exactly like the bottom circle of the 6's or maybe even from an 8. But like I said, I cannot see any other marks. The paint around the 0(zero) is clean and no indents from even a light stamp. it is only half the size of the other numbers.

So, do some begin with a 0(zero)?

No serial number on a 601 (or 501,701,801 or 901) began with a 0. The SN on all of those tractors was preceded by and followed by a diamond- <>. Do you see the diamond at the beginning of the SN? There should be no gap between the diamond and the first numeral in the SN.
All of the major components of the tractor (engine block, head, transmission housing, rear axle center housing, lift cover, etc) will have a casting date code molded into them. The date code will be a combination of 3 or 4 numerals and letters. If you can find those date codes (especially the one on the transmission housing) you can determine when the housing was cast and the approximate SN range that would match that casting date.

Here's the SN on my 851.

Thanks Texas! Yes I have and see the "diamond" before and after the number. The number in question immediately follows the first diamond.

So, my assumption was correct that it is not a 0 but more likely a 6 or 8, which does make it a '59.

Thanks again Texas!

I wish mine was stamped that deep and clear. Must have been using a light hammer the day mine was made. Mine are only half that deep, less on a couple.
