I am looking at a ford 600 tractor and trying to determine its date of manufacture. where the serial number is stamped it has 641 stamped above and on the serial number, I am guessing that is the model. I am not able to confirm what designates either. The actual serial number is has a diamond on the front and back of it. It reads as follows.
<> 156408 <>
the current owner belives it is a 1956 but is not sure, I would appreciate any help determining its exact vintage.

current owner doesn't even know what tractor he owns or is selling.

600 series was 55-57 model years. 601 series was 58-62 model years.

your model number says it is a 641

601 = 134ci gasser ( unless it secified diesel or lp.. etc )

x4x 4 spd trans non live pto, single plate clutch

xx1 58-62

yer sn says it is a early 62. 155--- was about the start of 62

don't feel bad. i'd take a 62 ofer a 56 any day. newer.. if condition was the same.. etc.

thanks very much,

Now I am wondering if this came as a 6 volt machine or 12 volt. It is currently 12 volt with an alternator, current owner felt it has been converted. I am not sure but have not researched it further, I do know a 1956 was still a 6 volt.

Originally it was 6 volts with pos ground.
Converted to 12 volts with an alternator, it will
be neg ground.

all pre 64 gassers were 6v

all diesels wer 12v

all post 65 wer 12v

gennies were used till mid 75 on most models, though i believe a 7000 got an alt earlier.
