Ford 851 hydraulic issues

I posted on here about 2 months ago about my hydraulic on my 851 Power-master. With all the feedback I was able to repair the hydraulic cylinder and replace the o-ring. Since all that work, another problem has come into the open...

Now when running my 5 foot bush hog and a 5 foot box blade, I have issues with the hydraulics holding the load elevated. I can set the height where I want it to cut, and in roughly 10 minutes it has bled down. I have to raise the control lever all the way up just to hold it but have to hit the drift control to raise from that point. If I lower the lever first, then I can raise it without the drift control. I can raise either then cut off the motor and it will hold forever. I am thinking it may be a bad flow valve or bypass.

Please help, Im about to sell it just to get rid of the hydraulic headaches....

sound slike you did not adjust the linkage per the alternate method in the shop manual to avoid using the nuday tools, when you had her apart.

I did not adjust anything. I took it apart in one piece and just pulled the piston out to install a new oring and washer. Should I have adjusted something?

Since the hard part of that job is to pull the lift cover off of the tractor, most folks go through the entire procedure in the manual for renewing all of the seals and O-rings in there as well as making all of the recommended adjustments. It helps avoid having to pull that heavy cover off and putting it back on more than once in a short while.

I'll admit when it come to this type of hydraulics, I do not know my butt from a hole in the ground. Everything I know is from my late father's 8N that we rebuilt 15 years ago and he did all the hydraulics. Pulling the cover off isnt that bad with the help of a overhead hoist but I do not want to pull it too many times if I don't have too.
