6610 loader problems

I got the loader on and new o rings in the remote
and everything seemed to be working as it should. I
used it today to unload 31 rolls of hay. when I
finished I noticed the remote control lever was
locked in the number 1 position . I moved loader
control to the float position and the remote lever
will go to second position but no futher. This is a
very lightly used BH2426 QT loader off a 1970 Ford
4000.

You're saying the tractor's remote valve will go to the lower position but not fully ahead to float? If that's the case I suspect a problem with the detent mechanism on the top of the remote. If you remove the 'cylinder' on the top/rear of the remote you should find the problem in there..

No, I was using the top outlet as the pressure outlet and the bottom outlet as the return. The lever was locked in the back position and would not return to the off position. The float position I mentioned is on the loader joystick control. I am a retired accountant and anything more than routine filter changes etc. seems to get the best of me.

If the remote will not return to neutral then the problem is likely in the detent mechanism of that remote. Not a big deal if you have a loader on there all of the time but it is when you need to remove it..

I should add... you should make a point of checking that something isn't simply causing the selector linkage for the remote to bind up..

Rod,

I suspect that the detent plunger for the remote is hydro-locking inside the housing. I think this is the same guy that asked about the handle popping back prematurely, and you advised him to screw in the detent adjustment, and I advised a bungie cord.

Regardless, if the lever is being held back with a bungie cord (or similar), then every time detent pressure is obtained, the release plunger is being activated. A small leak will allow oil to accumulate inside the housing and hydro-lock the plunger, since the plunger moves in when the lever is pushed into the float position.

To the original poster: remove the detent housing with the 3 screws. If a lot of oil comes out, and it then works fine, that is your problem. Rod's suggestion of cranking in the detent release adjuster will then be the preferred action here.

You may be correct... but I've also had the detent mechanism bugger up on one of mine and had to replace the guts in it. For the life of me I don't remember exactly what happened other than the bore was dry and it would not lower or float..

Bern, You may be right about the hydro locking. It was fine this morning, but after about 30 minutes moving and stacking hay rolls it was locked again. It will move just a little but will not stop fluid flow. I have not used the remotes in 5 years or more, both o rings were completely dried out.

Thanks a lot, Men
John
