ford 5000 power steering

posting for my neibor,

A ford 5000 I belive a 1974 model with power steering after owning for 2 yrs all of a sudden it seems to build pressure and blows the line off at the front of tractor, he put a new seal in the line and after about a half hr. it blew again. Any Ideas as to where to look? Thanks,

A 1974 5000 should only have power steering lines from the pump to the steering column and back. They had the integral cylinder inside the column like the later 4000 models. If it's got lines going up to the front of the tractor then it should be a June of 1970 or earlier model.

As for the "seal in the fitting" thing, the parts diagram does show O-rings as separate parts at the cylinder end of the lines coming from the pump. Was it the o-ring that was replaced the last time?

When you say that it "blows the line off" you mean that it literally blows the threaded connection completely off of the cylinder? If so then my guess would be damaged threads where the line attaches to the cylinder, plus maybe the relief valve in the power steering pump isn't opening when it should.
