I'm not interested in this tractor, just curious about them.
Anybody here own one or spent much time on one?
Who sold them in the US - regular Ford Tractor dealers?
They seem to be pretty good machines.
Are they as reliable as a 2/3000?
Comparable live hydraulics? Flow?
Are parts as easy to get?
I've never heard much bad about them other than something about the steering boxes are weak - or maybe hard to get parts for.
Was lpto an option or standard?
Tranny options?
This one looks nice all dolled up.
I like the looks of those Brit fenders. I have a set here that I'd put on my 3000 but they're a little too rough.

I have a 1964 Super Dexta. It has live PTO and locking differential. I like it a lot, the live PTO is handy when bush hogging. It"s been reliable and starts pretty easy for a diesel. I can"t compare it to a 2000 or 3000 since I"ve never had one of those. Parts aren"t hard to come by, you just have to search the internet. I replaced the two stage clutch, pressure plate and both bearings of $232 in 2008. The transmission is 3x2, that is a hi/lo range with 3 speeds each range.

It was every bit as good as a 3000 except for no power steering...

fabulous little diesel, locking rearend. probably more economical than the 3000. Was my first tractor and it was great.. passed it on the my BIL.. got a worn out 3000 and 730 loader to replace it.. After dumping about 3 grand into the worn out 3000, finally got it to be as good as the super dexta.... The perkens diesel is flawless, hydraulics fab... draft control was perfect... with 12.4s on the rear, with fluid it was king on the farm... Parts were a bit rarer but didn't replace anything in the 10 years or so that I had that tractor other than filters and oil. thermostart system was bypassed but didn't need it in so. texas.

Thanks fellas.
I was looking at those pictures of it again.
Note to self:
Remove the cardboard from under the tractor BEFORE taking photos of it for a CL ad.
Or at least when you go to look at it make sure you ask how much it leaks. :)

I don't have the super , but i do have a 1960, 'regular'. Love my tractor, runs like silk, mine leaks a little too from rear main. but i just picked up the 3600 because my dexta just has to get thru the bahaia in 3rd low with sharp blades. it does it, just not quite as fast as i'd like. hopefully the 3600 will save me a little time. but really really fun to drive, esp. spreading dirt.

he could have opened up the original tach hole above the shifters instead of the side mount. it looks awful.

We got a new one in early "64. Ours had the battery parallel to chassis so the hood opened on the right. It had under slung exhaust so manifold was on the left. It had glow plugs that allowed starts in s.e. Ga. winters. The start lever was a bear to press 9 out of 10 starts. The Perkins 38 h.p. per brochure leaked at back main the last year or so we had it, the trans would lock up toward the end also, 3rd gear bearing went bad and we were forced to use 4th to finish breaking land and learned it would pull the 3-16s but it took a while for it to reach its stride. In low range you had 1-2-4 and in high range you had 3-5-6. The two stage clutch made it a nice mowing machine. The spin out wheels w/13.6x28 looked substantial. The lift was always giving us problems. It started bobbing as the ink was drying on the contract. Don"t go thru a mud puddle without a shovel because it loved being bogged down. We also used a one row corn combine on it...slow but doable. We traded it for a new "68 4000 w/8speed Ipto.

Some parts are interchangeable with the Fords those that are not are dealer only $$$$$$$.... I have been able to source dealer parts from a CNH dealer if you get my drift...

We had a standard petrol Dexta for many years. In most respects it was a superior tractor to the 860 we also have. Smoother running, more efficient, better hydraulics, locking differential... only real downside is that it was heavy to steer and the hydraulics were not fully live... but tied into the PTO which had a 2 stage clutch. It more or less had the same hydraulic layout as modern tractors with IPTO but no live shaft driving it. Otherwise a decent little tractor. Parts tho.... are getting very sketchy here. Parts for the 4 cylinder Standard engine in ours were IMPOSSIBLE to get 25 years ago unless you had contacts in the UK to get them. Today, I suppose... in the internet age, you could no doubt get most anything you wanted with some searching... but it's most definitely NOT something you're going to walk into a NH dealer and get many parts for.

Only thing I remember is there was one
and it was the fastest tractor on the Island. The farmer's Son that drove we called Dexta, I am not sure that was his real name or not.
