another style foot throttle

I picked up an 860 the other day. It had a foot throttle on it. I don't think it would be all that hard to make if someone wanted to add a foot throttle to their NAA or hundred series tractor. The center of the flat stock has a pivot point and a return spring on the other side. This was on a '55 so it had the flat footbroads.

Kirk,

I added a Dowden from Red Rock this Spring to my 55 Ford 860 with flat footrests....it did not have a return spring with the kit as your picture shows.

I had to do some tweaking and still need some final adjusting with mine before the snow flies...that return spring may be just what it needs....currently mine does not work as smooth as I expected it would.

I never could understand the attraction of a foot throttle on a tractor.
One with a shuttle shift and a front loader I could understand but for a grass cutting or farm tractor just does not seem practical to me.

Now if we were talking a foot decelerator that would be a whole new ball game.

I have them on several models on my tractors and that do come in handy. You can still use the hand throttle when needed. I especially like it on my SOS cause it leaves my hand free to shift.

I put one on my 3000 and use it a lot.
For example, backing up to an impliment you can feather the engine speed up or down to suit.
Of course I still use the hand throttle for most work but the foot throttle - once you remember it's there does get a lot of use.
I just got one for my 4400 and will be putting it on soon.

I, for one, like a foot throttle. It lets you quickly return the tractor to idle when you need to, or temporarily increase engine speed (going up hills or something). Wish my 841 had one.

Ever had a tractor with a foot throttle?

A foot throttle is sort of like a remote control garage door opener or a micro wave oven. Once you've had one you will not want to be without it.

Ever had a piece of equipment with a foot decelerator.

I am not putting down on a foot throttles. I just think for a farm tractor a foot decelerator would be a much better option.

A foot decelerator is like a foot throttle with cruise control.
For a tractor with shuttle shift and a loader no need for cruise control so a foot throttle is a better option;
BUT.....
For a farm tractor with long stretches of open throttle and short sections of no throttle a foot decelerator is a better option.

If you've ever done a lot of roading with an unsyncronized transmission (i.e. a lot of Ford tractors), you'll appreciate the convenience of a foot throttle.

Bingo.

Without a foot throttle, it's not possible to RPM match when shifting a non synchronized transmission.

A foot decelarator is better than nothing but I'll take a foot accelerator 9 out of 10 times for just about everything that I do with my tractors.
