Grill on 851 with hydrolic pump

I purchased a 851 with a ford front loader and the hood and grill were not on it. the previous owner (deceased) said it was too much of a pain to put on and left it off while he owned it. I want the protection for my radiator so I put the hood on and started with the grill, that's were I ran into a problem. The grill has a slot on the bottom that the pump shaft goes through but it appears like the clutch on the shaft will rub against the grill when it is installed. I assume I will have to remove the pump and slide the shaft out then put the grill on. After that I will reinsert shaft and replace pump. Is this the only way to do it. I thought about cutting the slot all the way down so i could just slide it on behind the clutch but was not sure that even if I did do this that the clutch would end up rubbing. I really don't want to cut the slot if it is going to anyway or if there is an easier way to do this considering a replacement grill is $250.

i have pictures but it wont let me put them on this post.

Most likely to run the grill you'll have to chop a big chunk out of the bottom of it as the flex coupler (it's not a clutch) goes right about there where the grill/valence is.
That's why you always see tractors with a big chunk cut out of the lower part of the valence and know there was a loader on it at one time.

It doesn't sound to me like you have the correct grille for an 851 because there is no slot in it. Here's a photo of a correct 851. Does your grille look like this?
851

yeah thats what I was thinking was going to have to happen. Thanks for the input. I will see if someone else has any ideas but that is prob the route I will take. Can't be to mad about cutting the grill up got the tractor with a davis backhoe attachment and ford front end loader for $650. and the motor had been rebuilt a few years ago.. It has an issue with the carb I think the float is stuck I took off the line that goes to the breather and gas poured out. It also revs high so going to rebuild the carb and got a tach on the way so I can get it adjusted right.

I do believe it is not the correct hood/ grill it looks like a NAA hood and grill.
wish i could get the pictures to post.

ditto what UD said. VERY common to have to notch out the bottom of the grill with a loader pump.. etc..

I think it takes about 10 or more posts before you are allowed to post photos - it's an anti spammer thing.
You've got 3 posts now. I doubt anyone here would mind if you made 7 more "test posts" to unlock that feature so you could post photos.
We always like photos here.

That looks to be a fairly straight grille for a 600 or 800 series tractor and somebody will pay a good price for it. You can find one that's already been cut for about $10.

!!!!!!!!DO NOT CUT THAT GRILLE!!!!!!1

wow...perfect
agree a thousand percent. Please don't cut it.
The original grills quality is FAR above the aftermarket ones.
If you can't find a used, cut, one. Buy an aftermarket one and cut a hole in it and sell that one
to some poor guy that just needs a good grill to finish a restoration.
or hang it in the barn in case you ever take the loader off........

edit: quick check of ebay found new aftermarket grills for $98...ready for cutting... :D ,
and there is one used one that is cut already for $31.50

I havent had any luck finding one, well except remanufactured ones and they are $250. Where is a good place to look for one. Cause this grill is extremely straight with great paint on it.

I have a cut grille that I will give to you free-gratis-nada if you will NOT cut that one!
I'm in Lampasas, TX- where are you located? I get a pretty good discount at FedEx if you are not close. I may be able to ship it to you for $10 or so. Will you pay the shipping charges for my cut grille and save that good grille?

Dang I thought I was just going to have to lengthen the slot but I see why no one wanted me to cut this one. It completely ruins it. Get back with me when you get back in town. My zip is 30535 I live in Georgia that way you can figure the shipping.
