'53 Jubilee pushrods and rocker assembly - update

Ol' Pops found them, after cleaning out the barn. My other brother(not the one who owns the tractor) had about half his furniture & household goods stored in the barn. Apparently the box with pushrods, rocker arm and distributor had gotten stuffed under a couch.

If you don't mind, I'm going to keep your handle on file as a parts source. I've got a '41 9N, another relative has a 2N, etc. Judging by the responses to my previous posts, you're known as a fair & square dealer.

Thanks,

Anthony

So...I ran a tap down all the head bolt holes, ran all the bolts in snug, then started in the center with the torque wrench. Center bolt on the spark plug side to 50 lbs, center bolt on the manifold side to about 45 lbs and heard a snap/crack...oh boy, that didn't sound good. Pulled it back off, can't see anything obvious but right there by that bolt there's a water jacket, head had cracked there previously(from water jacket toward center of head) and my brother had it repaired last summer while dad was changing the engine. I called him and said he should have it checked again before putting it on.

I'm not sure how they repair these. Looking into the water jacket you can see several pieces of something, looks like 1/8" threaded rod or some such, maybe they drill and tap into the crack, screw in the rods and then weld around the whole thing? I don't know who did the work but he said they were recommended as the best place to go by the machine shop. Cost him $500 to have the head repaired and valves done. He's hoping they'll warranty it; you can tell it hasn't been installed but it was last summer when he had it fixed.
