brown engine oil?

Hello guys,
Bought more acreage. now cutting 25 acres or so. i was looking at buying a 3000/3600 for my 6 foot bush hog. i stopped at a local shop today(while they were closed)because i saw a blue tractor on the lot. when i stopped to look turns out it was a 2910. nice looking, original paint which i like, no more than usual looking oil and diesel wet areas. the property i am cutting now has lots of trees, tight areas, ditches, hills , humps, etc. i like to be able to maneuver around easily. and am trying to stay as small as i can to keep that manueverability.

anyway, i pulled the dipstick and the engine oil was brown. the tractor has been sitting there a while. should i automatically just pass on it? it registers 990 hrs, and looking at the clutch pedal looks to be about right. any advice?

thanks, david

Pass unless you can get it cheap enough to encourage you to deal with the engine work ahead...
Probably a pinholed block putting coolant in the base.
