pto play on 851

on my 851d the pto shaft has 1/4 to 3/8 inch play in an in and out direction. is this a serious problem or something that happenswith use or a normal thing. thank for your replys.

it is a serious problem ( thrust play ) and DOES happen from normal use over the years, a lil abuse helps too.

can be a bad bearing, bad split ring, bad bearing carrier, slipped wear ring.

only way to know is to drain hyds then diffy,
remove 4 bolts, pull shaft assy out with bearing carier.

be carefull.. shaft passes thru a seal between hyds and diffy. try not to hog it out pulling shaft out or restabbing it.

you remove the split rings and pop the bearing carrier off the shaft and bearing assembly by tapping it on a block of wood pto stub down.

can be as simple as a ring popped out.. or near invisible problem where ring popped out bearing carrier is damaged.
