2000 Ford 3cyl. gas with 8speed trans. 1967 model. Do I take off trans. cover on top or do I go in from rear of trans.? I want to be able to see the PTO shifter lever inside and see what it's supposed to be doing. All info is appreciated. Thanks. Pembroke

If it has an 8 speed transmission it most likely has a two stage clutch which is either worn out, stuck or not adjusted properly. Looking at the shift lever and sliding gear will not help. You need to find out why the transmission gears going to the PTO are still turning when you push the clutch pedal all the way down.

We had a '68 4000 8 speed that had a CURVED pto lever and it was independent-hydraulically op'd, fyi.

The 3 cylinder 4000 series all had independent PTO. The 2000 and 3000 of the same era had live or non-live except the ones with the S-O-S transmission had independent.
