New 1963 4000 with SOS - 41105

Just brought home a non running 1963 4000 with SOS and a 1 arm Ford loader. Has been sitting for about 6 months. Not so worried about getting it running but any advice on what I should do with SOS. Just start it up and see how good it works? PO claims SOS worked just fine.

Since it wasn't running, hopefully yo disengaged the traction disconnect before you moved it.

I would leave it disengaged through the entire process of getting the engine running, and then replace the fluids and hopefully Tony Jacobs will have the filters available by then and you can replace the filter as well, and then go through the S-O-S pressure tests and band adjustments per the manual and then move the traction disconnect back into the engaged position and give it a test run.

Chances are pretty good that the owner is honest about the SOS. One that age has the blue transmission and is pretty bullet proof unless it's been abused or neglected.

First, you need to get over the non-running engine hurdle and then go from there. I'd change the fluid in the SOS, clean the intake screen and adjust the bands once the engine is running. The filter is important, but not as much so as everyone seems to think. It is on the discharge side of the control valve rather than the intake.
