4 Cyl 4000 Oil Change - 2nd. thread

Ok. I couldn't take it. I had to pull the pan to see what the PO set up with that screen in there. Hmmm.... Is this a newer style pump and pickup? Maybe from a newer model tractor and changed over? Either way, it holds about 50 lbs at 900 so I guess it doesn't matter. Would just like to know what I have in there though. Good thing I pulled it anyway. Bolts were all bottomed out and the cork gasket was compressed to where it was shot and weeping.

It looks like it was subbed in from something else. I would be worried that at high RPMs that the suction on that intake could draw down against the pan and restrict flow.

There was something on here (Ford Forum) recently about those oil pump pickups. As I recall the style your tractor has is for a gerotor style oil pump and the old style where the screen is attached to the drain plug is for a gear style oil pump.

I am not computer savvy enough to attach a link, but if you go to NH parts book here on the "net ,it looks like you are just as Ford built it

I have worked on my 63 4000 and my 59 971 and between the two they have both styles of pumps but they both have the same style pickup tubes with the screen on the drain plugs. Never seen one like your style in the early 4 cylinder but that don't mean too much. My 2 cents worth. GregNE
