Hello
I am having trouble identifying a ford 3000. the serial number is B882607 , on tractor data it only has the 3000's starting with 4..etc. could someone have swapped a trans from another model? the hood is vented on sides and headlights or on the bottom sides of front cowl. clutch is hard to press, i thought they may have had a 3000 front with a 4600 rear end or something crazy and the clutch is crammed in there or something.
Any help / ideas would be greatly appreciated since i am considering buying this one. engine runs great.
thanks, david

Don't put too much faith in what you read on tractordata.com.
A serial number beginning with a B indicates a tractor that came off the Basildon, England assembly line. The louvered (vented) hood, if original, indicates a '65 to early '68 model. There should be two other sets of numbers, probably just above the serial number. They would be the model number (probably beginning with a 3) and the unit number (probably beginning with a 5, 6, 7 or 8)

It was entirely possible to install the 3000 front to the 4000 rear. It was known as the 4000 SU... The actual bolt up on both models is the same at the engine.
If you have a stiff clutch then the problem is more likely related to the pressure plate, release bearing or pedal pivot..
Serial numbers were prefixed with either an 'A' 'B' or 'C' depending on the point of assembly with a wide variation in the actual sequential numbers.
If you want to know what you have, get the model code off the tag under the hood or the stamped numbers on the flat of the bell housing to the rear of the starter... then decode them.

If it's got the louvered hood, then the odds of a foil sticker are low. They only started putting the foil stickers on them around September of '67 and then they switched to the smooth sided hoods on April Fools day in '68, so there was only about 6 months of overlap.

DavidLA - if you post some pictures of the trator, including the front and rear axles, we could come close to identifying exactly what it is, but the other numbers that should be stamped near the serial number will tell us for sure.

it has been repainted with new stickers about 10 years ago. will get those codes and post back!
thanks.
