tractor gears stick between reverse and 3 rd

midgainc

New User
First time here. I have a 67 2000 gas, no pwr
steering, 8 sp, live PTO.It had been sitting for a
few years prior to me purchasing it. I do not know
anything about its history. I have replaced the
wiring and switches along with cleaning and sealing
the fuel tank. I put a new zenith carb on it too.
It runs really good. The other day I was harrowing
and rushed shifting into reverse and the gears got
hung up in no mans land between reverse and third. I
took the plate off and moved the slider deal until
it clicked in place, put the cover back on, and have
been shifting carefully since.

I can feel that it can do this again. I shift
slowly into 3 and reverse, but sometimes I notice it
did not line up, and I go back to neutral for
another try.

I want to fix this. What parts do I need? My son or
another user could tangle the gears up. I want this
to be right. Thanks in advance.

I do not know how to fix the problem other than rebuilding the shifting fork assembly.

When was the transmission/hydraulic oil changed?

It's been years since my old tractor has hung up cross geared.

Two things I have done:

Change the transmission/hydraulic oil

Learn to shift the transmission, by never, never pulling up on the shifter lever as you are changing gears. Most times it happens as you are backing, then shift to go forward, you automatically pull up on the lever as you stop.

Old dogs can learn new tricks, you can learn to do this,

Much faster to shift slow and easy, than to have to take tractor apart to 're aligned shift forks.

Good luck,

May cost more than tractor is worth to buy all those shifter parts.
