low profile top post terminal?

Edit: low profile marine terminal.
My battery is an almost to tall top post(ford 4000 hood barely clears it) and I can't seem to find a low profile top post terminal. I'm looking for a top post terminal that is no higher than the post that will accommodate my side post type battery cable end type lug.

Since you're concerned about clearance with the hood, I'll
assume this is a 3-cylinder 4000. I don't know the correct
battery for a gas, but a diesel uses a 4DLT. It's close, but does
clear. If you go with side terminals, you'll likely still have
clearance issues with the hood, just on the side rather than the
top.
Any worthwhile battery dealer should have or be able to get a
4DLT. I've gotten the last couple I needed at Car Quest.

Fordfarmer, Tempting, I notice the 4DLT would bring my CCA from about 750 to about 1050 but I am hoping for the $5 dollar solution not the $100 dollar one. I have had this battery in the trac for 5 years and only when I made up a new batt cable with a lug that requires a marine type top post terminal ( that has the wing nut on the stud adding about 3/4") did this clearance problem arise. I know that I can solve it by glueing/sicking something to the underside of the hood so the batt will not touch it.

then again, my lower CCA may have something to do with my having to use starting fluid on occasion and a re-prime time that threatens to burn up my starter?

So get rid of the marine style clamp and get an automotive style replacement clamp. That is about as cheap as you can get. Or cut the stud off the clamp you have. No cost at all in doing that. If you are using that extra 'marine' stud for a connector, slip it on one of the 1/4" bolts that secure the clamp strap.

whatever solution you decide on,
a piece of rubber floormat laid over the positive post
before you close the hood will give you some peace of mind.
