641 3 Point Control

Father called saying that his 641 3 point seems to either be all the way up, or all the way down. As he moves the control lever, the lift arms move from one extreme to the other. It's difficult to diagnose from 400 miles away, so I'm looking for a bit of guidance here. I initially thought it might be related to the position of the draft control, but dad says that doesn't change it... I'm seeing some information on the web about the cam follower pin and internal adjustments. Is that difficult to determine if that is the issue? There seems to be a kit with this pin and some o-rings and gaskets... Any details on that are appreciated. Thanks, Steve

It certainly sounds like he has it in Draft mode. If he is absolutely sure it s in Position then you need to overhaul the lift cover watching for a worn cam follower pin and other worn/bent linkage.

OK... Further details are coming in... I apologize for the sketchy details, but I'm certain everyone can understand getting the details from 400 miles away can be.... difficult.

The 3 pt does raise and lower all the way as expected. You just cannot control it to stop anywhere between these extremes. I'm thinking this might mean that the cam follower is OK.

But the draft control lever is very tough to move, and snaps from one setting extreme to the other... Is that normal?

Also, the transmission (shifter) cover was off recently. Could something have been messed up at that time? The tractor shifts and drives well.

Thanks for any thoughts, Steve

nap movement is correct, but for POSITION control, it must be horizontal or as far CCW as possible. Lever movement is compressing a spring when moving to DRAFT control (lever down or CW) and releasing that spring when moving to POSITION control (lever horiz or fully CCW). Not transmission related.

When sure in POSITION control, how does lift react to movement of Touch Control lever? Same as in draft or can he find an intermediate lift arm position?
